What Italian law says

The rules on child restraints are clear — and knowing them makes everything simpler.

  • Under 150 centimetresIn Italy children shorter than 150 cm must travel with an approved restraint system appropriate to their weight and height.
  • The seat groupsFrom the infant carrier to the high-back seat to the booster for older kids: the choice follows weight and age, not habit.
  • The taxi and chauffeur exceptionThe law allows children to ride on the rear seats with an adult even without a child seat: it exists — but physics doesn't read the highway code.
