Embarkation day (and disembarkation day)

The right timing removes all the anxiety: the ship won't wait, but with proper margins it will never need to.

  • When to arriveBe at the terminal 2-3 hours before departure: cruise lines usually close check-in 60-90 minutes before sailing time.
  • Dropping your luggageOn arrival you hand your tagged suitcases to the terminal porters and find them in your cabin. Keep documents, medicines and valuables with you.
  • Documents and check-inCruise ticket and passport (or an ID card valid for your itinerary): checks are quick, but at peak times there are queues.
  • Disembarkation dayGuests usually go ashore between 7:30 and 9:30 in groups called by the ship: self-assist passengers carrying their own bags leave first.
  • High seasonFrom April to October the port runs at full capacity: book transfers and excursions early — peak days sell out everything.

Getting there (and back) from Rome

There is more than one way from central Rome to the terminal: what changes is how much control you have over timing and surprises.
